How to Celebrate Christmas and Stay Calm | Your Home For God

And just like that, we’re in Week 8 of the Series on “How to Schedule For a Calm, Christ-Centered Christmas.” Sometimes I get derailed by situations in our home or the world. Anyone like me? I accomplished things during this week, but it was harder to concentrate. I spent more time online than I probably should have. But, when I thought of all that’s already accomplished because of following this Schedule, I felt peaceful. That’s such a good feeling.

Remind yourself that these are arbitrary, for the most part, pressures and goals you and I put on ourselves. The world will not come to a screeching halt if they don’t get done. Decide which absolutely have to get done, put an A by them. Those that feel urgent, but don’t absolutely have to get done, put a B by. And, the things you’d just like to get done, put a C by. The goal this year is to have a more calm, Christ-centered Christmas!

Pray over your list. Don’t pressure yourself. Spend time intentionally with your family. Sit down to one meal a day (without phones) and talk to one another.  Read-aloud times are a great way to escape from the pressures of the day. Spend some time remembering what the First Thanksgiving was about! Spend time in prayer for our country right now. Christian, remember that there’s a spiritual battle raging around us.

As I said a few weeks ago, we need to pray for our spouse and children, our country, and those who don’t know Jesus as their Savior at this time. Pray with your children for all your unsaved loved ones. If this is a hard time for Christians, how hard a time must it be if you don’t know Jesus! Your children may be feeling fearful, or anxious, too.  Do they know Jesus as their LORD and Savior. Perhaps this will be the time you have the joyful opportunity and privilege to lead them to the LORD! Pray with them. Read Scripture to them. Walk with the LORD through each day, doing those things He leads you to do, in His strength, for His glory.

I spent time this week praying using the Names of Jesus as I prayed. I specifically asked the LORD to move in nearer to me. I often remind the LORD that I don’t need anything, except to know that He is near. I sang hymns. The words suddenly were fraught with meaning. Scroll down to read the words from one hymn I found especially meaningful.

Satan does not want you to focus on Jesus Christ at Christmas or any other time! He definitely doesn’t want you to be at peace, or to honor Christ at Christmas or turn to Him with your problems! Satan wants you to be fearful, incapable of action or prayer. He wants you to give up hope. But, God says in His Word that we should draw nigh to God and resist the devil, and Satan will flee! When I verbalize this to God in prayer, I literally picture Satan running down the street away from our home, tail between his legs. It may not be exactly the way it is, but I like the image:) So, let’s remember what this season is about. And, even in our preparations, and at this time in history, let’s take time to read the Word of God, pray, and know God, the Father, and His Son, Jesus, Who He sent into the world to save us from our sins.
